Default Would you move far away for love?

If you really loved someone, would you be willing to move far away from your family and friends? Would you be willing to do so even if it were unlikely you would ever or almost ever see your family or friends again i.e. witness protection, space colonization, etc.?

I've done it twice, but I saw my parents a little more often than that.

It's not only for love that you sometimes have to do those things.
Sometimes it's job-related, or some other reason.

It's good to be willing and able to go different places to follow
your dreams. But I think it's unfair to ask someone else to
give things up, or for someone to ask you to give your life
up, to be with them. If you have a wandering life, then be with
someone who also has that, or just stay single until you find
a place, and a person, that you want to settle down with...

I have seen too many relationships, including some of my own,
    destroyed by long-distance relationship situations...

    I couldn’t.
And not to be cynical, it’s just a freakin’ fear.
What if he leaves me, what if our relationship ends, in a bad way? Will I be able to start everything from the beginning (making new friends, find a decent place to stay, stuff like that) in a new town where everything makes me think about him? No, I can’t.

I had a long-distance relationship (well, maybe not so long for your Americans’ standard, but Italy is much more smaller!) with a man I really loved more than anything in the world, and who in fact asked me many times to move on to his place, but still, in the fight between feelings and logic, logic (and fear) won.

We broke up a year or something ago (he repeatedly cheated on me) and I’ve been never so hurt in my entire life . So, I’m pretty happy I did not have the courage to leave everything for him. And, for now, I don’t think I’ll able to do it for a partner.

That's why I was saying that both people need to make
the decision because they want to.
Like if you were eager to leave your town,
and he was asking you to come, and you could not wait to leave,
then it would have been fine. But if you are happy with where you
are, and happy with your friends, job, etc, then you should try to
find someone who is also happy living in that same city. Or someone
who really wants to come there. Not someone who wants you to
give that all up. They need to understand why you love the place
you are at, and have the same feeling about it.

Well, witness protection would be something of a necessity I expect. Space colonisation? Probably not...but still.
As for love? Well, for the right person perhaps, but I agree there would likely be that nagging voice in the background asking me what I would do if it all went a bit pear-shaped. It would take some doing to get past that, but if that person is the right one, you have to believe it could.

You shouldn't have to give up the family and friends...it would just make it a bit harder is all, but if something is worth it, you would try that bit harder wouldn't you? And that is to say nothing of the myriad of different ways there are for keeping in touch with people.

That's kind of how I ended up in Seattle in the first place. Of course, it turned out that I fell more in love with the city than I ever was with the woman who lured me there. I must go back and visit...

The real question is "Would they be willing to do the same?"

If the answer is yes and you know that for sure and most definitely.

As for Head Wreck....Good luck with that. I hope the best for you, but I've only seen the long distance thing work out a few times. I, myself, am in the "Fuck! I really thought our long distance relationship was solid as steel" club.

I've picked up and moved every couple of years/months since I was 5. I've gotten used to moving, and if the good stuff is coming with me, then why not?

I have, but recommend you date someone within a 45 minute drive radius.

Sure, why not? It's not like you can never move back to where you came from if the relationship goes for the big shit. And chances are, if something leads you somewhere, it's probably for a reason.
