Default Tipping is not a city in China

How do you folks feel about the whole system?
We all know that waiters make thier living off tips. Do you stick to a standard rate? Do you tip based on a scale of reward? are you naughty like Mr. Pink?

Do you think other people such as fast food employees should get tips? What professions should or shouldn't get tips?

More specifically, do you think it should be customery to tip your peircer/tattoo artist? If so, what's your system for deciding on the amount to tip?

Screw Mr. Pink, I'm Mr. Black, and I tip pretty well. I like to go to regular places and I like being taken care of by people I'm familiar with, so I think it makes all the sense in the world to take care of these folks well. I find that you get what you give. I appreciate the love so I feel it's right to give the love as well. Also, if I do tip low, people know it's probably because they fucked something up pretty bad and they should think about getting it right next time. But that doesn't happen terribly often. I do tip delivery people a little more than I probably should though, I might scale that in a bit in the '06.

I find it hard to judge a person's performance on service because sometimes they are just having a bad day. I feel kind of like a jerk if I decided to tip low and then I feel stupid if I tip high. Instead, I wish they would just "flat tax it" and just do a "service compris" and just add it into the bill or round it off. Regardless, one should tip. It's how much I have issues with.

Mr. Pink here, and as tipping goes, it is a city in China as far as I'm concerned. It is unfortunate that it is more the norm to find less people who actually deserve a tip. Customer service is a long gone franchise in my neck of the woods. But that is not to say that when I travel, and recieve excellent service, I wont kick in for the effort, its just a rare bird in my book. On the plus side, if there is a person who actually goes out of their way to make the effort, my tips tend to VERY large. I like to make it a point to tip extravagantly and very publicly to inspire others. Not to tip but to "deserve" a tip.
Those places that automatically add the tip onto your bill, can go straight to hell. They do nothing but inspire their workers to do even less for the customer. So even the rudest and vile person still gets a tip. FUCK THAT !!

I'm a great tipper...mainly to places I go regularly cause it does influence how fast and in some cases how hot my food is. Where I can be a real prick about it is if the server or person performing a service is completely rude and disrespectful...I can understand having too many tables to work or even having a bad day...but their is a line that if you cross with me I'll happily make worse.

I tip the standard 15% for adequate service from those in industries where pay is less than minimum wage because tipping is expected to make up the difference (wait staff, delivery person, etc.). I also tip other people in service industries where customary (hairdressers, porters, massueses [sp?]). I tip more for exceptional service, the amount being dependent on how much more than adequate the service was.

I can recall only once when I did not tip a waitress at all. My daughter and I went to Waffle House for breakfast. The waitress took 10 minutes to come to our table (it was not exceptionally busy) right off the bat. Took our order and brought me coffee. Twenty minutes later I still hadn't heard her call out our order (I know how Waffle House works) and she hadn't "had time" to come back and re-fill my cup which had been empty for 10 minutes. She quickly looked away anytime I tried to get her attention but she certainly had time to stand behind the counter and gossip with another waitress. So I got up, took my cup, walked behind the counter, picked up the coffee pot and poured myself a cup. She said "hey you can't do that!". I said "watch me".
I deposited the cup on the counter in front of her, told her to cancel the order and to look for another line of work - service was not her forte. It embarressed the hell out of my daughter. But a couple other tables voiced their approval (she must have been their waitress as well) and one table even applauded, lol.

i think i tip pretty good when i do go out to resteraunts and stuff... and ride in taxis.. .thats about the only time i need to haha... usually its like 3 to 5 bucks... most people would think thats pretty steep but if i get a really nice waiter or waitress (or cab driver... which is rare when they actually take the time to talk to you) then i think theyre worth it...
at little caesars, our delivery drivers get a 3 dollar delivery fee automatically worked in, but thats mostly for gas money i think, cause they have to have their own car and everything... if they get a tip on top of that then fabulous.. heh... i got a tip once working there hehe... it was like 35 cents and sarah got the same... so far its the only tip ive ever gotten in my life and it was so cool hahaa... (yeah im lame)

I tip chaotically. Sometimes I just have more money than others. If I'm in a sit-down restaurant, I usually tip, but not for fast food. I also am not liking the trend where people with, well, more of a fixed salary than waiters/waitresses get are starting to ask for tips. I do tip delivery people, as that's expected, as well as in other situations where people usually tip. I'm not going to tip the guy behind the counter at Wendy's, though.

As for the amount, well, sad to say it depends on what mood I'm in and how much money I have. If things are pretty tight, I probably won't tip well; if things are going good, I'll tip more generously. I never tip well for bad service and like to reward good service, but it takes something special (usually brokeness, honestly) to make me not tip at all. And even then I like leaving notes and drawings :p.

I tip 10% the first time, then when I get to them, they get a sliding scale... never below 10%...
Unless they are a midget bartender then i will tip 75%...
