I apologize for getting on a ranting tangent there. That's one of the few things that I'll get fighting mad over. That and people who insult veterans.

No problem at all. Yeah I hear ya on the vets. I think we really need to respect what they've gone through. It should make no difference where one stood on the issue.

Indeed. I don't agree with the conflicts America has got into, but as I said, the people who go over here, for the most part, are told what to do and serve their country.

The one thing that really annoys me is the powertripping that's since gone on. Cops breaking a teenager's arm, calling her nappy head and slamming her face into the pavement cause they thought she didn't pick up spilled cake fast enough, entire government agencies dictating commerce WELL outside of their jurisdiction - a president who thinks of the Constitution as "a fucking piece of paper" unquote----

Ron Paul. I don't care how narrow his view of the Constitution is. At least he respects it.

I support vets too. My grandpa was a WW2 P.O.W., was in the Batton Death March and was captured prisoner by Japanese guards until he broke himself and his troops unit free, by apparently breaking the arm of the guard who was offering him a cigarette while in prison, then stole the keys to the cell.

    Kinda like movie material there.

I respect Paul. He actually ran in 1988 as the Libertarian Party Candidate. If nothing else, he brings up legitimate issues whilst the other Republicans speak in platitudes.

I wish that translated to Paul being relevant in the Republican Primaries. He seems to be the only one with anything to say. He is polling between 1 and 5%. I actually doubt speeches or endorsements from either company would carry much weight.

it's true al gore is a self serving two faced jackal.

his family owns Occidental Oil, which is responsible for 'plan columbia' which isn't getting as many headlines as iraq. but the premise is simple enough, "kill the indians, take their land, **** it for oil." that's the company that made al gore's family rich.

"libtard"? hmmm, hadn't heard that one before, guess it goes pretty well with "cuntservetive". (as well as the ever popluar "neo-cunt")

seems awfully strange that the EPA would target cyclists. I'll have to ask my buddy who rides, and rebuilds like 4 bikes at a time. (he's always yammering on about percision machined whatever, like i give a fuck.)

of all fossil fueled contraptions motorcycles are probably some of the cleanest running, and most fuel efficient, and therefore pose a minimal threat to the environment. (man, doesn't that just burn your ass BP? you're a "green" douche yourself hahaha...)

yeah, it's odd that they'd target motorcyclists, but allow more arsenic to LEGALLY be added to our water supply. Big Biz pollutes, it's okay, some guy putting together a bike isn't? odd.

Ron Paul and the Libtardians (thanks for that one BP) are dill holes.

Arm the EPA and fire up the ovens at the re-education camps! hahahaha... round up everyone who's ever owned an SUV.

...and by the by BP, i can get laid showin' up wearin' nothin' but one oldschool metal wheeled rollerskate, and a trashbag as a diaper...

Is it possible to build a "kitbike" that meets the emissions standards? I think the law is bogus on its face, but can it be done?

Thanks to some lobbying by some larger manufacturers, ya sure can! So long as you never touch the engine, computer, fuel injection, exhaust, etc. and are willing to put in a catalytic convertor, radiator, etc. Don't like the look of the pipes? TOUGH SHIT.

In other words, you can build exactly the same bike that came outta the store, at twice the price, and you have the same freedom to change nothing but the paint or screw on some chrome mirrors.

In other words, you can build exactly what the government says you can.

The two bikes I have are from the 70s. They're clean. The electrical system is about five or six wires. They're uncomplicated - 90% of the time I can fix it with a small collection of hand tools that fits on a pouch between my lower frame rails that's the size of a very small purse. In fact, I used the same five hand tools to do a 85% disassembly of the engine. The only things I had to use that were extra were breaker bars and a torque wrench, as well as taking the case to a machine shop to have bushings and seals pressed in. (maybe less than 2% of the entire engine rebuild).

When you put in a computer, oxygen sensor, etc. you come up with a system which, when it breaks down, CANNOT be jury-rigged to work. This is important if you're riding cross-country, and something fucks up.

You can fuck with a set of busted points or somehow limp a carburetor into the next town. If your oxygen sensor goes or the computer goes, you need to tow to the nearest town with a suitable dealer (and in some cases, we're talking HUNDREDS of miles!) and find a dealer.

And you can't fix parts, just replace one piece of shit Chinese part with another piece of shit Chinese part.

Wow. This is beyond fucked-up. Do you have a link to a biker group or some organization that wants to overturn this? The targetting is so audacious its breathtaking.

If you're truly interested, check out ABATE in your area, or any reasonable MRF.

Bikernet.com has been following and advocating for this and other bikers' rights.

Thanks. I found the MPLS group associated with ABATE. www.metromn.com
    and this: http://www.glacialridgeabate.org/

MRF - Motorcycle Rights? This will be an issue up here. We have a lot of custom bike shops. I don't see this law as accomplishing anything. They should just exempt you guys and go after the corps. This law does the opposite. Fucking ridiculous (yet typical).
